How did I write my LOM?
In this blog, I will explain how I wrote my LOM.
First of all, there is no standard format of LOM, every person has their own opinion. However, your LOM mainly answers the following questions:
- Why you?
- Why this course?
- Your future goals?
- Why this course?
But again it can vary from program to program. For example,
for my course, it is mentioned that I should tell them how much I am interested in
their culture. So before writing any LOM make sure to go through the
description of the LOM. It will tell you the following things:
- What they are expecting in your LOM
- What should be the maximum word limit of the LOM (Keep this in mind if its mentioned otherwise it’s better not to exceed 2 pages)
Now come to my LOM.
Paragraph 1
So here I just write 2- 3 lines stating why I am applying
to this course but did not explain the motivation. Because it creates a curiosity
to read the whole story.
“Following my presentation at the ……………, I became deeply committed to addressing the issues of climate change and environmental degradation ….. I have been actively… preparing myself to overcome these challenges.”
I just tell them what is my motivation to apply to this
course, but it did not explain t as I am going to explain in later
paragraphs.
Paragraph 2
In this I talked a bit about myself, and why I did choose my Bachelor’s.
“I always felt a strong connection with engineering………… my interests in math and physics solidified my decision to pursue engineering……………… I was fortunate to be accepted into the top-ranked University, i.e., the University of Engineering and Technology, for my Bachelor of Science in Petroleum and Gas Engineering………………………………. because of my strong foundation in science and mathematics, and I was awarded a merit scholarship for the first year.”
Paragraph 3
In this paragraph, I talked about my motivation of why I decided
to switch careers from Petroleum to Renewable energy. As my real motivation was
that international conference so, I explained to them how it motivated me to focus
more on sustainable development goals.
“During my third year at the University, I discovered my passion for energy and the environment. …………………. The competition aimed to............... in response to Paris Agreement…………….. The prospect of powering Oil and Gas activities with renewables offers energy industry opportunities, and broader society grabbed my attention. ………………………………….. Our research presentation was highly appreciated.......................... This conference opened up new dimensions....... I have decided to have a career in clean energy,.................... greenhouse gases and pollutant emissions.”
So you can talk about your motivation in this paragraph.
Paragraph 4
In this, I link my online courses to the master's program, and I
tell them which online courses I did (related to the master's program). In
addition, I mentioned in a few lines that I have taken part in different co-curricular activities as well.
“Moreover, I have actively pursued additional learning opportunities to expand my knowledge in………………………………………………………. These courses have provided me with a foundation in …………………………………………… a sustainable environment. In addition……………… I have gained valuable professional skills through my involvement in student societies at my University, where I have……………………………………….succeed in practical life.”
Paragraph 5
If you have any professional experience then you can
mention it here. As I did have experience in the renewable field, therefore,
I mentioned it here. If you have not then you can skip this part.
“I graduated with a CGPA of 3.67 out of 4.00 and was ranked 7th in my class. After completing my studies, I …………………………………………. These experiences not only deepened my passion for renewable energy and desire to learn about the latest ………………………………………..the European Green Deal.”
Paragraph 6
This is one of the most important parts, as I already
tell them who I am, and what is my educational and professional background in simple
words I laid the foundation. Now I tell them why I am applying for this course.
“I am passionate about playing a ……………………….. secure energy system, particularly in …………………………….. Therefore I am applying for the “Management and Engineering of Environment and Energy (ME3+)” program. This unique master’s program combines energy and environmental engineering with management and social sciences……………………………………………… ………………Moreover, project management modules of ME3+ will help me address ……………………………………….. Pursuing MS in ME3+ will be a beneficial asset for my quest to build a bridge to a low-carbon future.”
Be personal do not write generic statements here about the
programs. Talk about what courses you are interested in and what you expect from those modules. Tell them you are highly interested in their program.
Paragraph 7
In this, I tell them what I will do after graduation. Again
be personal about what you are going to do. Secondly, I mentioned here that I am
also interested in learning about their culture as it will help me to increase my exposure
and achieve my goal of a sustainable future.
“Upon completing my studies, I aspire to work as an ……………………….. I am confident that this master’s degree will prepare me ………………………….. Furthermore, this program is also a chance to learn about cultural………………………………………………………. I hope to gain new insights and build meaningful connections ………………………………..future work in energy and environmental engineering.”
Paragraph 8
Lastly, I just conclude with some generic statements.
“My academic background, industry experience, and passion for clean energy make me a strong candidate for the Erasmus Mundus Scholarship and the ME3+ program.”
I hope it will help
you guys, plus your LOM or opinion may vary from mine so, it’s not a hard and
fast rule. So be creative.
TIP: Never ever copy
someone's LOM, because once you do that you might get a plagiarized version or it
will not be coherent with your story as everyone has their own story and
motivation.
